FAQ'S

Harrow Bengaluru provides an internationally adapted program based upon the English National Curriculum, modified and enriched by the school faculty to incorporate the local environment and culture of India. The school offers classes from Lower Kindergarten through Grade 12. Students take international examinations, including Cambridge IGCSE in Grade 10 and A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) in Grade 12. At the same time, the school will adopt a holistic educational model, hence ensuring all round development of students and the building of character and humane values.

Harrow Bengaluru aims to enrol students regardless of previous educational experience, race, religion or other characteristics, provided that the minimum academic, language and character standards are met and satisfactory references from previous schools are provided.

All applicants will be invited to complete the Harrow Test prior to entry, which will aim to ascertain both their academic potential and their holistic engagement. This broad-ranging assessment procedure reflects our desire to offer places at Harrow to students who have both the academic strengths to flourish within our international programme and the enthusiasm to take the wider opportunities which our school community will offer.

The Harrow Test comprises a 20-minute interview, a computerised English and Maths assessment (one hour in total) and a classroom-based group activity (20 minutes). This broad-ranging assessment procedure reflects our desire to offer places at Harrow to students who have both the academic strengths to flourish within our international programme and the enthusiasm to take the wider opportunities which our school community will offer.

In the days following completion of the Harrow Test, applicants receive one of the following results:

  • A List - the offer of a place at the School;
  • B List - the offer of a place on our Waiting List, allowing reappraisal at a later date;
  • C List - no offer.

Families are asked to confirm their acceptance of a place within 2 weeks of receiving the admission offer letter, paying the required deposit as detailed in the invoice.

Harrow has a global reputation for its ability to support students with special talents in a broad range of areas. The school’s scholastic facilities and highly qualified faculty ensure that the most academically able are stretched and challenged, both through differentiation in the regular classroom and, very significantly, an extensive super-curricular programme. The latter provides regular opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the standard academic programme through a variety of clubs and societies and through working alongside faculty on advanced level projects.

Harrow Bengaluru also provides excellent support to those with special talent in co- curricular areas. Our outstanding facilities, and the extended school day permitted by our boarding ethos, allows students to dedicate extensive periods of time to the development of their talent under the guidance of experts in their field of expertise, whether it be a particular sport, music, drama, art, or a variety of other pursuits.

Harrow Bengaluru has a very robust and clearly defined counter bullying policy which lays out our zero-tolerance attitude towards bullying, which is accompanied by a strong educational approach, hence confirming that all of our community understand the importance we attach to this issue.

The School ensures that parents are clear that bullying-type behaviour is not tolerated and are aware of the procedures to follow if they believe that their child is being bullied. Working in close partnership with parents on this issue is absolutely essential and always in a student’s best interests.

Similarly, the School ensures that students understand the School’s approach and that they are clear about the part they can play in preventing bullying, including when they find themselves as bystanders. Students need to know where the boundaries are and that we take those boundaries seriously.

Our preventative approach is further reflected in the proactive engagement with all students on this issue which includes the publication of clear Codes of Conduct, an extensive PSHE educational programme, the creation of student-led pastoral teams in every house, the establishment of diversity and inclusion groups, and the sharing of regular surveys which allow the school to identify any emerging trends.

The School ensures that disciplinary sanctions are applied in such a way that the consequences of bullying reflect the seriousness of the incident, so that others see that bullying is unacceptable. Our approach to sanctions is always fair and consistent. Sanctions almost always include a reflective written work component in which students are required to consider carefully their actions and write about how they intend to move forward positively.
